“Charlie Chaplin” look-alike in Dunsmuir…plus story…

This was taken in 2006, while the River Cafe was still open in Dunsmuir, CA. The owner of the River Cafe, “Charlie’s” boss at the time, was fooling around…with him. Funny… Allan Viner, the Charlie Chaplin look-alike had moved from Southern California, where he used to be seen at Ports O’ Call in San Pedro, and at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, to Dunsmuir, in 2005. He knew that Charlie Chaplin had been in Dunsmuir in the old days…and was excited to be a part of the Dunsmuir Community. He was to be part of the California Theatre opening, during Railroad Days, after the grand old theatre’s renovation. He did “meet and greet” for the Silent Films that were shown during the first weekend of the grand opening, and wandered around the trains in the afternoon, as Chaplin, promoting the opening of the California Theatre. After the first weekend, he continued to work as “Charlie”, meeting patrons of the arts at the front of the theatre, performing his antics, until it’s closing in late 2005. While The California Theatre was open, it was so much fun! Dunsmuir suddenly had comedy acts, plays, musicians, etc. on it’s old stage once more. After the theatre closed, Allan worked around Dunsmuir at a few places as “Charlie” and participated in the community. He became akin to a “mascot” for Dunsmuir. He gave Pantomime classes at the California Theatre while it was open. He later moved to the Mt. Shasta area, offering pantomime classes, participating in parades, and
