WBBM Channel 2 – TV 2 News at 10pm (Part 3, 1973)

Here’s Part 3 of a complete edition of the TV 2 News at 10pm on WBBM Channel 2 with anchor Bob Wallace. Also featuring Bob Faw, John Coughlin, and a brief shot of Bruce Roberts. Includes: Bob Wallace introduces a report by Bob Faw on efforts to save the old wooden Deerfield, IL train station which is set to be replaced by “a sturdy, but architecturally dull, masonry and metal structure”; the film report shows people at work painting the old wooden train station, and architectural historian Don Wrobleski is interviewed, as is Jim Frein of the Deerfield Jaycees later in the piece; Bob Faw notes that the station’s owner, the Milwaukee Railroad, has justified its planned replacement by noting the old structure is “too costly to maintain”; a clip of a train passing by is shown at one point; after the end of the report Bob Wallace notes how there isn’t much history around the Chicago area and that the station deserves to be preserved This leads in to John Coughlin’s weather report, with rain and then snow in the forecast; note that on the weather map, the font used to describe conditions in numerous parts of the country is the same typeface (Highway Gothic C) as seen on street signs in many cities; at one point a brief shot of the city late at night is shown, and there is a little trouble keeping John in the shot (probably the same culprits responsible for putting the chroma-key afro around Wallace earlier in the broadcast); then a picture of people walking in the rain is shown
