For Democracy’s Future: Education Reclaims Our Civic Mission (Part 1)

Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, other senior Obama Administration officials and civic education, government, business and philanthropy leaders gather to discuss the importance of civic learning and engagement in democracy for the 21st century. The event marks the release of “A Crucible Moment: College Learning and Democracy’s Future,” a new report to the Department of Education from leading civic scholars and practitioners, as well as the Department’s own report, “Advancing Civic Learning and Engagement in Democracy: A Road Map and Call to Action.” The event will also highlight the new American Commonwealth Partnership, which aims to bring together thousands of universities, colleges, community colleges, schools and other civic partners to promote civic education, civic mission and civic identity throughout all of education in the United States. “Rom Coles” (at 1hr41) is one of the infamous “Duke 88”.

They signed an advert endorsing the actions of a lynch mob on campus. The mob harassed men who were victims of false rape allegations and called for sexual violence against them.

Coles’ wife also signed the advert and maliciously awarded an F grade to one of the victims of the false allegations when he had in fact passed. Coles and his wife left Duke after the student successfully sued but neither have apologised for their actions.

Finally, someone raises the issue of parental engagement and involvement. Without that factor in the developmental stages of a child, how can any meaningful progress be expected to happen

Funny, the more the lefties get involved the less school and programs my kids get. Nothing but program cuts and more days off just like this administration. I guess he needs the cash to fly himself and Oprah and the family to Hawaii for vacation.

about 90% of the replies here belie the need for more civic studies as most of the people make comments with pretty obviously no factual base. Most of them simply spewing Beckism’s or whatever the latest “news” is from Fox.

Our politicians, we must constantly say: ENOUGH WITH THE WARS,
    but they do them.
citizens, we must always remember to blow some smoke, pollute less, but they continue to do so.
really! seems to me that the individual (not so much grown)
and just like children, and old, they are always in need of a nanny, or who knows what you combine yourself!
