Preparing A Chinese New Year Celebration

This year is the year of the Dragon, celebrating those born under this Chinese Zodiac sign. The Dragon represents nobility and luck, and is one of the most popular amongst Chinese celebrated years. So this year, we should all celebrate our own share of luck to start out the new year.

A traditional look

Red and black balloons with golden ribbons provide a great look for your ceiling, and are easy enough to do in a matter of minutes. Plenty of light carried by the classic red Chinese lanterns that hang from trees and posts will bring luck to your event. These lanterns can string across any area, and give a very festive vibe to the atmosphere. Healthy Recipes For Dinner

In the life of today’s world, it seems as if everyone is trying to look for a quick and easy recipe that is healthy. When you finally come across that one recipe that you have been looking for, you find that it requires a ton of stuff. You plan the meal, sit down and make that grocery list, drive to the store, do the shopping, check out, pay the bill and drive back and prepare that meal.

For each serving use one chicken breast with the skin on. Slice a lemon, lime and orange. Place a slice of each under the skin directly on the meat of the breast. Bake in a slow oven 300 degrees for about an hour until the chicken is done. Slow roasting preserves the juiciness of the chicken.

Back Bay Restaurant for Chinese Food

Okay, let’s get real, I love my barbeque, Italian, Greek, American and all but there’s something about Chinese food that gets me giddy. When I get that General ‘ chicken craving I start looking for the best Chinese Back Bay Restaurant to satisfy my stomach’s oriental desires. This is a personal favorite; I think I order Chinese food at least twice a month.  I have tried many a different  high quality establishment and there are some things that really stand out to me now. Chinese restaurants are a unique dining experience.

I prefer to order Chinese food and set up my T.V dinner and down some Lo Mein, and Hot & Sour soup. If you are going for the take out route there are some things you should consider before you even decide what you want. First, do they deliver? And if they do how much do they charge? How long is it going to take for them to get to you? Is there an online menu? Can you get a good idea of what they offer in variety and specials, along with their respective prices?

Beyond those pre-order specifics, my biggest concern is combos. Combos, combos, combos, Chinese food is all about the combo. I get really disappointed when I want some late night movie time Chinese food and they only do a lunch special. Be sure to make sure if you’re ordering past 2:00 P.M that the restaurant has an all day special. These specials usually run something along the lines of:  One entrée, choice of Lo Mein or rice (pork fried or white) and two appetizers. Typical appetizer options include: boneless spareribs crab Rangoon, chicken or beef teriyaki on a stick, eggrolls, or chicken wings.

These specials are the best. You can usually get this sort of deal at most takeout Back Bay Restaurant options for as little as $ 8, and at the most $ 12. The key thing to make sure of is the portion size. Don’t let the cost scare you or fool you. At the high price you will get more food than you bargained for and you will not be able to eat at once. I love this, because cold Chinese food tastes amazing in the mornings. It’s one of my absolute favorites, whether it is Schezuan chicken, or Gao’s or spicy vegetables, there is something about the cold taste of Chinese sauces and produce in the morning that makes me happy.

Most dining inside a Chinese Restaurant is usually similar to the food you get in the take out but the presentation is much different. You eat plates of one type of food that is exquisitely done and tastes phenomenal. However, because dining at a Chinese restaurant limits you to one style plate, the best thing to do is go with friends and order different plates. That’s how they operate, and you get small plates so you can share your food with each other. What do you look for when choosing a Chinese Back Bay Restaurant?

Chinese Food ? Jiaozi or Dumplings

Food and eating are an important part of travelling in every country and China is no exception with such a diversity and richness of so many delicious dishes. A gourmets delight. Of all the Chinese dishes, there is one that stands out for its simplicity, diversity, functionality, popularity and taste. The jiaozi or dumplings as they are known in the west.

Jiazi (see picture below) are crescent shaped and made of ground meat and/or vegetables wrapped in a round thin piece of dough made from flour and water that is then sealed by crimping or pressing the edges of the dough together. Jiaozi can be pan fried but they are normally boiled. I love Chinese food but find that most Chinese dishes have one fault, they use too much oil. Boiled dishes like Jiaozi not only taste delicious, their lack of oil also makes them much healthier.

Once they are prepared, Jiaozi are normally in dishes or eat or more and eaten with a sauce made from a combination of soy sauce, vinegar, chilli, garlic and a peanut like paste I can never remember the name of. Eating Jiaozi with out sauce is like eating a hot dog with out meat. You can do it but it is just wrong.

Jiaozi are often confused with Wonton which is wrong because they are too very different dishes. The dough wrapping for Jiaozi is thicker and chewier with the distinct crescent shape. Wonton on the other hand have a thinner wrapping, have a spherical/ball like shape and are served in a soup.

Jiaozi are so diverse and popular you could be in the mountains of Kunming, at a hole in the wall back ally eatery in Kong Kong’s Mong Kong or at a famous 5 star restaurant in Beijing eating this delicious dish.

With a history dating back to the Song Dynasty around a thousand years ago, Jiaozi are a classic food and an integral part of many customs and traditions such as the Chinese Spring Festival where many families eat them together at midnight. In the north of China on New Years eve, an important custom is for the whole family to prepare Jiaozi by hand for the midnight feast. An experience Jiaozi maker (most Chinese over the age of three) can make well formed attractive looking Jiaozi in 30 seconds.  Don’t be fooled though, making Jiaozi is not as easy as you’d think. My most recent experience making Jiaozi with a Chinese family did not go smoothly. My Jiaozi looked horrible and took way too long to make so I was politely invited to leave the kitchen and watch TV.
