It’s All Earth & Sky

“Its All Earth and Sky!”, was the reaction of one German-Russian immigrant when she arrived on the plains of the Midwest. Like many others who came to the region seeking a land of promise and opportunity, she and her family enduredand prevailedon this rich, expansive landscape. Immigration implies departure as well as arrival. Transport from one country to another may mean deportation; it inescapably includes exile whether voluntary or forced, and brings disruption to families in the old country and in the new. Immigrants require courage and fortitude, even when they are weak and poor. Like many others who have come here seeking a land of promise and opportunity, Germans from Russia have suffered and they have prevailed. Since their background and history is as rich in texture as it is in diversity, they serve here as a model of assimilation of other ethnic groups into American society. Five representative Germans from Russia who have attained success and stability share their insights on the process of becoming American.

Chinese Soup – Wonton Soup(馄饨汤)

This is the Chinese way to make wontons, as easy as it is, yet low in calories and taste delicious. Where I am from – Shanghai has a clear distinction between small wontons and large wontons .This is the one called:小馄饨(small wontons) in Mandarin, which we usually eat as our breakfast, but it’s been adopted into a different eating habit in western country.

Bath Salt Used As Drugs People go crazy

PANAMA CITY – They’re sold as bath salts, but police say they’re used as dangerous drugs. A Panama City woman was jailed this week for allegedly swinging a machete at her mother while high on “Bath Salts”. Now the Bay County Sheriff has asked stores to stop selling them. Laura Hussey “These are the bath salts the Bay County Sheriff doesn’t want sold in his county. Sometimes they’re called party powders. They can be found in smoke shops, adult novelty stores, even gas stations” Angie Turner “You dilute it in water, and you use it in the bath. All of our product is labeled, it clearly says on the packaging, put it in the bath” These aren’t ordinary bath salts…..They cost anywhere from thirty to ninety dollars. The ingredients are different too……. When people snort the powder, they get a euphoric high similar to cocaine or methamphetamine. Lt. Andrew Schneider/Crestview PS “This is not a safe product” Lieutenant Andrew Schneider of the Crestview Police Department says the buzz isn’t worth the risk. Lt. Schneider “It does cause medical complications with people that ingest it. It causes damage, we’ve had calls where people were calling in about having hallucinations and things of that nature” Still, demand is so high that people aren’t just buying the stuff, they’re stealing it.
